CVSS is a registered charity based at Rickmansworth Aquadrome in Hertfordshire, making sailing accessible, affordable and enjoyable for people with disabilities. Run entirely by volunteers, the organisation has helped people get out on the water since 2001, welcoming sailors of all ages and abilities. Its sailing and katakanuing activities are supported by specialised boats and equipment designed to accommodate a wide range of needs, including physical, sensory, learning and mental health conditions. CVSS invites people with questions about its equipment or experience to get in touch.
Safety is central to each session: CVSS uses safety boats provided by its neighbour, Bury Lake Young Mariners, to monitor and assist participants on the water. The charity is part of Sailability, the Royal Yachting Association’s programme helping people with disabilities try sailing and participate regularly, and is affiliated with the RYA. CVSS also offers opportunities to volunteer and welcomes donations to support its work. Its sailing operates seasonally, with sessions scheduled on selected weekdays and Saturdays.
