Cyprus Wildlife Research Institute is a prominent organization dedicated to the protection and welfare of nature and wildlife in Cyprus and the wider Levantine Basin. Established in 2018, CWRI operates through three primary programs: Rescue/Treatment and Rehabilitation, Research and Conservation, and Awareness Raising & Capacity Development.

Under the Rescue/Treatment and Rehabilitation program, the institute manages the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (WRRC) and Wildlife Hospital and Research Laboratory (WHRL), which conform to international standards set by the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC). Annually, around 1,000 animals receive expert care and are successfully released back into their natural habitats. In addition, the Cyprus Marinelife Center (CMC) works tirelessly to rehabilitate and treat globally threatened sea turtles.

The research and conservation efforts of CWRI focus on expanding our understanding of biodiversity, monitoring critical species and their habitats, developing conservation strategies, and preserving genetic information through the BioBank and SeedBank initiatives.

CWRI's Awareness Raising and Capacity Development program, led by the Cyprus Environmental Education Center (CEEC), aims to increase public awareness about the island's biodiversity and the threats it faces. The center offers scientific workshops, training courses, and guided biodiversity tours to enhance the public's understanding of biodiversity and its conservation.

Recognizing the importance of a skilled workforce, CWRI invites volunteers from any background, both locally and internationally, to receive comprehensive training and actively participate in wildlife observation and conservation efforts in Cyprus and the broader Levantine Basin.
