About Daily Union News
The Daily Jefferson County Union, based in Fort Atkinson, WI, is a reputable and longstanding brand in the newspaper industry. Founded in 1870 by William Dempster Hoard, it holds the distinction of being the first Union newspaper ever printed. Although the original copy of the March 17, 1870 issue was not preserved, the brand's legacy remains intact.
Starting as a small four-page weekly in Lake Mills, the paper relocated to Fort Atkinson in 1873 following encouragement from local businessmen. Despite financial constraints, Hoard managed to establish his own printing plant in 1883, strategically located at the corner of South Main and South Third streets. Business thrived, leading to the expansion of the brand and the eventual creation of the widely renowned Hoard's Dairyman magazine in 1885.
Today, the Daily Jefferson County Union continues to serve the greater Jefferson County area, delivering news, advertising, and production services. In December 2018, the brand was acquired by the Adams Publishing Group of Minnesota. With a dedicated and experienced staff, the brand remains committed to upholding its founder's vision of delivering the best content to its readers.
