Since 1994, it has worked to create a home for exceptional new Black Canadian dance works and to connect artists with audiences and opportunities. Its activities include presenting performances and events, hosting workshops and residencies, and supporting artists through programs, resources, and artist calls. The organization also offers international programming and an annual season, alongside initiatives such as the Immersion Festival, THRIVE, and a 30th Anniversary Legacy Summit.
Through these activities, dance Immersion contributes to the development and visibility of Black dance and the artists who create it. The organization is centered in Tkaronto (Toronto), Ontario, and acknowledges the Indigenous peoples and treaty relationships connected to the land. Donations directly support artists’ presentations, workshops, and residencies.
