Dancing for Rhinos is a South African nonprofit organisation dedicated to protecting rhinos and supporting the people who care for them. Founded in 2012 by Tanja and GΓ©rard West after the poaching of three rhinos at Kariega Game Reserve, the organisation was inspired by Thandi, the sole survivor. Its work combines practical conservation support with creative public engagement, using music, singing, dance and drama to share rhino stories and encourage involvement.
The organisation focuses on four areas: awareness and education, wildlife protection, research and innovation, and orphan and survivor care. It supports conservation teams with drone technology, pilot training, communications equipment and other essential resources, and works with partners on anti-poaching K9 support and on-the-ground needs. It also contributes to specialist care for rhinos, including milk, feed, medication and veterinary costs. Through performances, school visits and community engagement, Dancing for Rhinos promotes wildlife education and helps young people become conservation ambassadors.
