Dans op Recept is a Dutch organisation that makes dance accessible to people living with chronic conditions. Its professional dance teachers lead weekly classes in Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe and Limburg, with additional locations and activities expanding its reach. No dance experience is required, and classes are designed so participants can move at their own pace; all locations are wheelchair accessible, and carers are welcome to join.
The organisation offers classes for people with Parkinson’s, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis and long-term pain, as well as mixed classes. Its approach centres on enjoyment, connection and discovering what the body can still do, rather than learning precise steps. Dans op Recept says research conducted with Revalidatie Friesland and Radboudumc found positive effects on participants’ quality of life. Its classes are not a replacement for physiotherapy, and its teachers do not treat specific physical complaints.
Other activities include performances by participants, tailored workshops, Danslabs, in-company training, impact presentations, online learning, symposia and scientific research.
