North Portland Danzan Ryu is a martial arts dojo dedicated to teaching Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu, a system developed in Hawaii in the early 1900s. The school welcomes people who want to develop themselves through martial arts and states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability. Its approach is guided by Kokua and Jita-Kyoei: offering help without selfish intent and working for mutual welfare and benefit.

The dojo invites prospective students to try a class free of charge. Visitors are asked to email or call ahead so the school knows they are coming, and are advised to wear comfortable athletic clothes, such as sweatpants and an old T-shirt, for their first visit. Those who continue training will need a white judo gi. The website also provides information about the dojo’s location and schedule, instructors, and resources for new and current students, along with a gallery and contact details.
