About darchicago.org
Chicago Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), is a community-focused chapter of the historic service organization. Established on March 20, 1891, it was the first DAR chapter and continues to serve Chicago, Illinois. Its work supports the Society’s mission to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and secure the nation’s future through education. Members take part in community service centered on historic preservation, education, and patriotism, and the chapter welcomes prospective members seeking information about joining.
The chapter shares its history through archives and events, including regular meetings, educational programs, and gatherings such as a George Washington Birthday Tea and spring luncheon. Program topics range from DAR lineage research and Native American women’s history to Indigenous Chicago and the Museum of the American Revolution. The chapter also highlights its local heritage, including member Grace Willbur Trout’s role in the 1913 Illinois Suffrage Motorcar Tour. Through its meetings, resources, and service activities, Chicago Chapter, NSDAR, connects members with American history while encouraging civic engagement and learning in the community.
