Darkroom Dave, the creative persona of Ilford Master Darkroom Printer Dave Butcher, encapsulates over 40 years of expertise in the photography industry. Based in the picturesque Derbyshire Peak District, Dave transitioned from a chemist with a PhD to a full-time photographer in 2004, following two decades at Ilford Photo where he honed his printing skills. As one of only six Ilford Master Darkroom Printers in the UK, he maintains strong ties with the brand, utilizing their high-quality materials for his work and educational offerings.
Darkroom Dave specializes in producing exquisite black and white photography, hand-printed on Ilford’s premium fibre-based papers. His products are available through his online gallery and Etsy shop, offering a diverse range of unframed prints. Additionally, Dave has authored six books focused on landscape and urban photography. Although he has ceased offering workshops and lectures as of 2023, his passion for exploring breathtaking landscapes continues to inspire his artistry, documented in his captivating photography and collected works.
