Dark Sky France

Dark Sky France is the French association and national branch of Dark Sky International, established in 2024 to help protect the night environment and reduce light pollution. It brings together people committed to preserving access to starry skies and supporting conservation work in certified areas. The association works with sites that hold, or are pursuing, Dark Sky International certification, including France’s International Dark Sky Reserves and other designated spaces.

Its activities include advising territories on certification requirements, supporting certified sites with ongoing compliance, sharing expertise and practical resources, and strengthening communication and collaboration among French sites and Dark Sky International. Dark Sky France also raises public and decision-maker awareness of light pollution, its effects on wildlife, plants and people, and ways to limit it. Its educational and outreach initiatives include relaying International Dark Sky Week in France and promoting events such as Le Jour de la Nuit and the night-sky awareness workshop La Fresque du ciel étoilé.
