About Data Uruguay
Data Uruguay is a civil society organization dedicated to promoting open government, open data, and civic technology. They work towards transparency, access to information, digital rights, and the co-creation of public policy. Data Uruguay operates based on three pillars: Tools, Community, and Activism.
Under Tools, they create civic tech solutions using open data to empower informed decision-making and exercise rights. They collaborate with other organizations, governments, and communities for this purpose. With the Community pillar, Data Uruguay organizes networks and events at both national and international levels to build a supportive community for open government, open knowledge, digital rights, participation, and open data.
As for Activism, Data Uruguay partners with local and international civil society organizations and academia to advocate for open government, data, knowledge, digital rights, and public policy co-creation. Their mission is to contribute to a more just society by utilizing open data and civic technology. They emphasize social tools and community strengthening for participation and the reuse of open data.
Their vision is grounded in the belief that a just society requires the active participation of well-informed individuals, facilitated by public information, open data, transparency, and civic tech. In Uruguay, Data Uruguay's main focus lies, but they also engage in regional and international work through community-building, events, and project replication in partnership with local organizations. Their tools and data are open and available for download and reuse
