DataONE, the Data Observation Network for Earth, is a community-driven project founded in 2009 to make Earth and environmental data more discoverable, accessible, and usable. Its federation connects multiple member repositories, helping researchers find and access well-described data about life on Earth and the environment. By supporting open, persistent, robust, and secure access, DataONE aims to enable new science and knowledge creation.

DataONE offers tools and services for researchers, institutions, and repository partners. Its data discovery features include federated search, portals, custom search options, and metrics. DataONE Plus provides enhanced services, while Hosted Repositories offer dedicated repository solutions for groups or institutions, managed by DataONE. The network also supports member repositories and invites organizations to join the federation.

For the research community, DataONE provides webinars, training materials, skill-building resources, how-to guidance, and monthly community calls. These activities help users develop data skills, connect with peers, and learn about repository services. DataONE also shares network updates and welcomes participation in shaping its community and services.
