Sektion Hanau is a local section of the German Alpine Club (Deutscher Alpenverein), with more than 5,000 members and activities for people of different ages and experience levels. Based in the Hanau area, it brings together people interested in climbing, hiking, alpine sports, outdoor activities, and nature. Members and non-members can take part in a broad programme of courses and guided tours, ranging from introductory opportunities to activities for experienced participants. The section also runs groups for families, young people, hikers, alpine enthusiasts, and volunteers, creating ways to learn, exercise, and connect with others.

For climbing, Sektion Hanau operates the Kletterzentrum Hanau and a climbing tower in Gelnhausen, with access during opening hours and courses. Its youth groups meet regularly at the climbing hall, outdoors, and for other activities. In the Lechtal Alps, the section owns and operates the Hanauer Hütte, which offers overnight accommodation to members and non-members. The organisation also supports environmental initiatives and relies on volunteers to help deliver its programmes and maintain its facilities.
