About DCAF HQ
DCAF HQ, also known as the DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, is a leading international center dedicated to making states and people safer through effective security and justice systems. With a focus on democratic governance, the rule of law, and human rights, DCAF works to shape and facilitate security sector reform (SSR) policies worldwide since 2000. DCAF supports partner states by assisting them in developing laws, institutions, policies, and practices to improve the governance of their security sector.
Through inclusive and participatory reforms based on international norms and best practices, they help create good security sector governance (SSG) that is crucial for development and security. DCAF's expertise extends to various regions, including Europe and Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. At DCAF, impartiality, local ownership, inclusive participation, and gender equality are the guiding principles in all their activities.
They provide advisory services to governments and international organizations, create knowledge products, promote norms and good practices, and offer legal and policy advice. Furthermore, DCAF supports capacity building for state, civil society, and private sector stakeholders, providing access to independent expertise and information on Security Sector Governance and Reform (SSG/R). DCAF's Foundation Council, consisting of 49 members from 47 states and the Canton of Geneva, oversees their strategic direction.
With field offices in various locations and employing over 220 staff members from more than 40 countries, DCAF has established itself as an internationally recognized center of excellence for SSG and SSR. Collaborating with partners such as the UN, UNDP, European Union, AU, ECOWAS, IPU, NATO, NATOPA, OECD, OIF, OSCE, and ODIHR, DCAF is committed to upholding privacy policies and delivering impactful results.
