DDEV is a renowned brand in the web development industry, offering a powerful local development environment for web developers. Born within the innovative company Drud in 2016, DDEV was initially a tool integrated into their web hosting product, DDEV-Live. However, its independent value became evident, leading to its transformation into its own repository and subsequent release as an open-source project.

During this time, Randy Fay, a strong advocate for local development and debugging, dedicated his expertise to DDEV under Drud's sponsorship. With the closure of Drud in 2021, DDEV faced an uncertain future until Platform. sh stepped in as a key sponsor in 2022.

They ensured the project's continuity by hiring Randy Fay and maintaining its open-source nature. DDEV remains freely accessible to all developers, supported by the DDEV Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Colorado, USA. This brand boasts an impressive track record, with over 5,000 active users, 188 releases, 261 contributors, and 51 sponsors.

The community plays a significant role in DDEV's governance through an Advisory Group. Continual support and extensive documentation are available to users, along with a vibrant community on Discord and Mastodon. Stay informed about DDEV's latest updates and contributions through their blog and newsletter.
