The Department of Defence Production (DDP) is part of India’s Ministry of Defence and the Government of India. It supports the development of the country’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, with a focus on self-reliance, indigenisation, innovation and future-ready capabilities. The department works with India’s 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), defence establishments, industry and entrepreneurs, and publishes information on its performance, policies, schemes, tenders and opportunities.

DDP highlights indigenous systems and sub-systems for platforms such as tanks, including alarm signalling units, relay regulators, voltage converters, drive assemblies and optical components. It also promotes innovation through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), a scheme launched in 2018 to engage innovators and entrepreneurs in developing defence and aerospace technologies. Featured areas include quantum communications, artificial intelligence, asset-health monitoring and autonomous vehicles.

Through the SRIJAN Defence portal, vendors can add products to a digital database and connect with defence users. The department also shares industry opportunities, including project enquiries and expressions of interest, helping suppliers participate in the development and modernisation of India’s defence capabilities.
