Das Deutsche Diabetes-Zentrum (DDZ) ist eine interdisziplinäre Forschungseinrichtung mit einer klaren Mission: Diabetes verstehen, vorbeugen, behandeln – und langfristig besser versorgen. Als Referenzzentrum der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft bündelt das DDZ modernste Forschung in den Bereichen Grundlagenforschung, klinische Forschung sowie Versorgungsforschung und führt bevölkerungsbezogene Studien durch. Von molekularen Prozessen bis hin zur Gesundheitsversorgung im Alltag – die translationale Forschung steht im Fokus. Mit seiner Arbeit trägt das DDZ entscheidend dazu bei, die Stoffwechselkrankheit Diabetes mellitus einzudämmen. Dazu gehört auch wissenschaftlich fundierte Beratung für Politik und Gesellschaft. Die Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler des DDZ sind federführend an der Deutschen Diabetes Studie (GDS) beteiligt, eine der wichtigsten Langzeitstudien zu Typ-2-Diabetes und seinen Folgeerkrankungen. Das DDZ ist Mitglied der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft und Teil des Deutschen Zentrums für Diabetesforschung (DZD).
