About De Basm
De Basm is an NGO in Bucharest, Romania, founded in 2018 with the aim of promoting contemporary Romanian literature for children and adolescents. They are dedicated to supporting creators and facilitating access to books and stories for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Over the years, De Basm has grown both in terms of membership and impact.
Through their numerous projects, thousands of children and young people have had the opportunity to meet their favorite writers and engage with their works in libraries, schools, museums, cultural centers, book fairs, and festivals. Each year, the writers from De Basm visit children in rural areas and disadvantaged communities, conducting creative workshops and donating books through the De Basm Caravans. The LittleLit Festival, organized by the association, connects Romanian children's literature with international literature.
The educational resources created by De Basm support students, teachers, and librarians. With every occasion, De Basm demonstrates that children's literature is not a minor genre but one that can proudly stand within the realm of great literature
