About Deconeuro Laboratory
Déconeuro Laboratory is a University of Ottawa research laboratory focused on how swallowing, communication, and neurological health interact during recovery and rehabilitation. Its name draws on the French and English terms for swallowing, communication, and neurological function. Researchers, trainees, and end users work together to study human feeding and swallowing and their relationships with communication, particularly among people with neurological diseases.
The laboratory’s research includes examining how communication and swallowing relate to life participation, identifying recovery patterns for people with these disorders after stroke, and developing therapies that address multiple functional systems in people with neurodegenerative diseases. Projects often involve a range of collaborators and may build on years of preliminary inquiry.
Déconeuro also supports research training and shares its work through publications, abstracts, clinical news, and other research activities. The laboratory lists opportunities and information for PhD trainees, clinical master’s students, and bachelor’s honours students, alongside details about its people, affiliations, and teaching.
