Defense Alliance is a prominent technology-based economic development organization that supports small businesses in the Upper Midwest region. Their mission is to accelerate the commercialization of technology products and services while contributing to regional economic growth. They focus on various market areas such as power and energy, strategic natural resources, and cybersecurity, all of which contribute to the vibrancy of the defense industry and the national technology base.

Defense Alliance encourages firms to consider funding their innovations through Department of Defense programs. Additionally, they have a special emphasis on companies in rural areas of the Upper Midwest, including HUBZones and Opportunity Zones. The operations of Defense Alliance include consulting services, events linking industry, academia, and government organizations, informational webinars, an annual Defense Industry Roundtable event, and ongoing networking for its members.

Membership is open to individuals and groups interested in regional defense contributions. Membership is free, but registered members are expected to assist other members in their business development goals. With a history dating back to 2003, Defense Alliance has grown its network to include member organizations in 34 states
