Dehio

The DEHIO-Vereinigung is a scholarly organization dedicated to continuing the art-topographical work begun by Georg Dehio, whose handbook of German art monuments has been developed and expanded for more than a century. Founded in 1941 and known by its current name since 1976, the association brings together specialists in heritage preservation, architecture, and art history. It holds scientific responsibility for the DEHIO Handbook, whose volumes are published by De Gruyter.

The DEHIO Portal extends this work online, offering access to digital, illustrated inventories of significant architectural monuments in Germany and other parts of Central Europe. DEHIO digital Deutschland provides descriptions of important buildings and their furnishings, based on the handbook and developed with the German Documentation Center for Art History, Bildarchiv Foto Marburg. DEHIO digital Ostmitteleuropa covers selected monuments in Poland and the Baltic region through a multilingual, hybrid publishing project, combining print and digital formats. Together, these resources make scholarly descriptions of cultural heritage more accessible to researchers and the public.
