De Meernse IJsbaan

De Meernse IJsbaan is a community ice-skating initiative based in Kloosterpark, De Meern, offering local residents the chance to enjoy skating when winter conditions allow. The organisation monitors weather forecasts and the condition of the natural ice to decide whether the rink can safely open, sharing updates and practical information through its website. Visitors can check opening news and hours, find skating tips for children, and learn about the local weather, as well as contact the organisers with questions or enquiries about lost property.

When conditions permit, the volunteer-led team prepares the rink and may provide “koek en zopie,” traditional refreshments associated with Dutch skating. The organisation also welcomes volunteers to help sweep the ice and staff its hut, and invites donations and sponsorship to support its activities. Because opening depends on the weather and ice quality, access is not guaranteed, and skating is at visitors’ own risk. De Meernse IJsbaan connects the neighbourhood through seasonal outdoor recreation and keeps the community informed when skating opportunities arise.
