Demensvenligt Danmark

Demensvenligt Danmark is a Danish organisation working to help people living with dementia and their relatives lead safe, dignified and fulfilling lives. It promotes understanding of dementia and encourages communities to become more dementia-friendly, working with municipalities, workplaces, organisations and civil society to support practical changes.

A key initiative is the national dementia symbol, “Håndsrækningen” (“A Helping Hand”), which people with dementia can wear visibly or discreetly to signal that they may need assistance. The organisation shares guidance on how to respond with patience and kindness, including making contact, speaking clearly and allowing more time. It also coordinates Demensugen, an annual campaign in week 19, and organises activities such as dementia camps and a national dementia summit.

Demensvenligt Danmark provides articles, educational materials, information about dementia and its warning signs, personal stories, and a three-part documentary series. Its resources include ABC Demens, free online learning for people who work with those affected by dementia.
