About Denim Day
Denim Day is a powerful response to harmful attitudes surrounding sexual violence. Peace Over Violence, since 1999, has spearheaded this movement to support survivors and challenge misconceptions. The campaign originated in Italy in 1992 when a rape conviction was overturned due to the victim wearing tight jeans, leading to the infamous "jeans alibi.
" This sparked a global protest, inspiring Denim Day in LA and beyond. Denim Day 2024 is on April 24th, urging individuals, businesses, and officials to wear jeans as a statement against victim-blaming. Through educational resources, hotlines, and events, Peace Over Violence strives to end rape culture and promote healthy sexuality.
