About DVI
Trudi Birger - Founder of DVI (1927-2002) - Dental Volunteers for Israel is a non-profit organization that provides free dental care to Jerusalem's indigent youth and elderly, regardless of their race or religion. Founded in 1980 by Trudi Birger, a Holocaust survivor with a personal mission to never abandon a child in distress, the organization has been dedicated to improving the lives of those in need. The clinic's cardinal principles, established by Trudi herself, continue to guide its practice today.
These principles include providing free treatments to the city's most needy families, implementing a dental hygiene preventative health care program, and maintaining a regular six-month recall program. The clinic is staffed by volunteer dentists, both Jewish and non-Jewish, from various countries, ensuring that comprehensive and compassionate care is delivered. Trudi's legacy lives on through the dedication of the Dental Volunteers for Israel's Board of Directors, who remain fully committed to her vision and continue to honor her memory by providing crucial dental care to those who need it most
