About De Oude Zondagschool
De Oude Zondagschool offers distinctive, sustainable holiday accommodation in the rural Achterhoek region of the Netherlands, near Aalten. This listed 1924 building once served as a Sunday school and has been carefully restored into a comfortable, spacious holiday home that retains its historic character. Set among meadows, with a private woodland for guests to explore, it accommodates up to six people and two babies. The home includes a generous living room, a well-equipped luxury kitchen, two bedrooms and a smaller sleeping room, a modern bathroom, fast internet, interactive television and an electric-vehicle charging point. Dogs are welcome, and two bicycles are available for exploring nearby walking and cycling routes.
Sustainability is central to the stay: the house was restored using reclaimed materials and vintage furnishings, is insulated and all-electric, and uses a heat pump and solar panels. Eco-friendly cleaning products, waste separation, Fairtrade coffee and tea, and organic wine support a thoughtful approach to hospitality. Guests can book weekend, midweek or weekly stays, with last-minute discounts sometimes available.
