The Deportation Data Project is a research initiative at the University of California, Berkeley and UCLA that obtains, publishes, and analyzes U.S. government immigration enforcement records. Using public records litigation, primarily through Freedom of Information Act requests, the project makes original agency data available as released and provides processed, compiled datasets to support further analysis. Its collections cover agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Executive Office for United States Attorneys. Topics include arrests, detainers, detention, removals, immigration court cases, and DACA and TPS applications.
The project also offers interactive tools for browsing, filtering, and downloading subsets of its data, including explorers for ICE records, detention facilities and offices, immigration court cases, and benefits applications. To help users interpret the information, it publishes data guides, FAQs, codebooks, processing code, and available agency documents. The project shares research and data updates, welcomes public datasets for linking or publication, and provides a way to ask questions.
