Erlenhof is an Icelandic horse farm and riding centre in Essen, in the southern Ruhr area of Germany. Founded in 1990 by Heidi Kammann on her family’s former farm, it was the first Icelandic horse farm in the Ruhr region. Around 45 Icelandic horses live there in open-stall conditions intended to support their welfare. The centre offers horse boarding, training and riding instruction, alongside Hippolini courses that introduce children aged four to ten to riding. Its team includes qualified Icelandic horse riding instructors and Hippolini teaching staff.
The facilities support a range of riding and training activities throughout the year. They include an oval track with integrated circles and connecting paths, a lit 20-by-40-metre dressage arena, a 15-by-30-metre indoor riding hall and a small lunging hall. Riders and visitors can also use a lounge and training room. The historic farm setting includes a garden with seating, a barbecue and play opportunities for children. Erlenhof shares news, videos and information about its horses, courses, events and everyday farm life.
