Derby Aero Club, operated by Airspeed Aviation Ltd, is a leading UK-based family-owned and run general aviation company. With a focus on aircraft maintenance, flying training, and airfield operations, Derby Aero Club offers a comprehensive range of services. As the only CAA licensed aerodrome in Derbyshire, Derby Airfield serves as a center for general aviation in the Midlands.

Established in 1982, Airspeed Aviation Ltd quickly gained CAA approval and expanded its operations. After outgrowing its original hangar space, the company discovered the Burnaston Aerodrome, where the Derby Aero Club & Flying School was established. Despite facing challenges with unreliable aircraft, the club flourished during the late 1980s, becoming a popular choice for flying lessons.

Unfortunately, Burnaston Aerodrome closed in 1990, but the club found a new home in Derbyshire at Derby Airfield, which opened in 1992. Over the years, the facility was expanded to accommodate different types of aircraft. Additionally, the club operates a restoration project for the DeHavilland DH88 Comet racer G-ACSP, an iconic aircraft flown by Amy Johnson and Jim Mollinson in the historic 1934 race from England to Melbourne.
