About Derby Museums
Derby Museums is an independent charitable trust operating three museums: the Museum and Art Gallery, Museum of Making, and Pickford’s House. It is dedicated to preserving and showcasing Derby's unique cultural heritage on behalf of Derby City Council. With a diverse collection of artifacts, Derby Museums offers visitors a fascinating journey through the city's history.
One of its standout attractions is Derby Silk Mill, recognized as the birthplace of the modern factory and located in the Derwent Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Recently opened as the UK's first Museum of Making, it provides a captivating insight into the evolution of manufacturing. Additionally, Derby Museums is proud to house the finest collection of works by Joseph Wright of Derby, an influential artist of the Enlightenment.
