Descamex, formally Descafeinadores Mexicanos S.A. de C.V., is a Mexican coffee decaffeination company founded in 1980 by Domingo Muguira Revuelta. It established Latin America’s first decaffeination plant and has developed its Mountain Water Process to remove caffeine while preserving coffee’s flavor, aroma, and consistency. The company serves the coffee industry with decaffeination services and exports, using specialized technology and process analysis to support coffee quality and bean yield.
Its water-based process, patented in 1987, achieves more than 97% caffeine extraction, according to the company. Descamex also holds organic certification dating to 2003 through OCIA and lists compliance with several organic standards and programs, including the U.S. National Organic Program, European Union requirements, Mexico’s organic products law, and Japan Agricultural Standards.
