Ijsclub de Schaats

Koninklijke IJsclub “De Schaats” is a community ice-skating club in Twisk, founded on 14 January 1904. Rooted in the village’s tradition of skating on natural ice, the club also helps local residents enjoy skating and active recreation when conditions allow. Its youth programme, Jeugdschaatsen T.

O. M., welcomes eligible primary-school children from Twisk, Opperdoes and Medemblik for supervised skating lessons at IJsbaan De Westfries. The season typically includes regular Saturday sessions and concludes with the Westfrieslandtocht.

A separate recreational skating hour offers teenagers and adults the opportunity to keep skating, while the club also points participants toward training with Schaatstrainingsgroep Koggenland, where beginners can develop their skills. Beyond the ice, De Schaats organises Paas Obstacle Run Twisk, a family-friendly Easter event featuring a shared route and obstacles such as rope bridges and net crawls. The club’s activities combine sport, instruction and social participation, giving children and adults opportunities to move, learn and take part in community events
