Descript is an AI-powered audio and video editing brand that helps creators turn raw media into polished, shareable content. Its API lets developers automate common production tasks using plain-language instructions to Underlord, Descript’s AI editing assistant. These tasks can include removing filler words, improving audio, adding captions, and creating short clips from longer recordings.

Through the API, users can import media from a public or presigned URL, or upload files directly from their own systems. They can organize media into projects and compositions, request AI-assisted edits, and publish finished work without opening the Descript app. Jobs run in the background, with status available through the API or a callback. Descript also provides a command-line interface and MCP integration, enabling workflows from terminals and tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, and Cursor. The Help Center offers developer documentation, quickstarts, authentication guidance, endpoint references, and information on rate limits and partner integrations. The service is designed to connect automated media workflows with the option to review results in the Descript editor.
