Desert Community Energy is a not-for-profit electricity provider that launched in Palm Springs in April 2020. As a Community Choice Energy program, Desert Community Energy is part of a collaboration between cities to allow communities to source their own electricity and break free from traditional Investor-Owned Utilities. With dozens of similar programs in operation throughout California, Desert Community Energy offers customers the choice to purchase cleaner electricity at competitive rates, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and the development of a renewable energy infrastructure.

What sets Community Choice Energy programs apart is that they empower customers to make decisions about their electricity, from its source to its cost, and how revenue is reinvested locally. Desert Community Energy is governed by a Board of Directors with equal representation from each participating city, and they also have a Community Advisory Committee comprising community members from each city to provide valuable input on programs, policy, and outreach. Desert Community Energy is committed to helping customers boost energy efficiency, making clean energy more accessible, and contributing to the local job market.
