Desert Funerals

Desert Funerals is a 100% Aboriginal-owned, culturally sensitive not-for-profit funeral service based in Alice Springs. Founded by Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation and Centrecorp, it supports families and communities across Central Australia, including remote areas of the Northern Territory and northern South Australia. Its aim is to provide a safe and affordable space for families to farewell their loved ones.

The service arranges culturally appropriate funeral ceremonies, working with the wishes of the deceased and their family. Ceremonies and burials can take place on Country or in Alice Springs. Desert Funerals can help arrange a pastor, coordinate burial details, and guide families through practical matters at a difficult time. It can also refer families to other services for assistance with the deceased’s affairs or transport for relatives and friends attending the funeral.

Funeral attendants are available to help with arrangements and make the process easier for families. Desert Funerals also shares funeral notices and is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association of Australia and Funerals Australia.
