About NGV
Melbourne Design Week (MDW) is an annual 11-day celebration of design, showcasing talks, tours, exhibitions, launches, installations, and workshops in Australia's design capital. The event serves as a platform for designers, educators, enthusiasts, and businesses to gather, share ideas, present new work, and explore how design can positively impact our complex world. The program is curated into two streams: the National Gallery of Victoria presents local and international exhibitions like the Melbourne Art Book Fair and Melbourne Design Fair, while the satellite program features events focusing on the 2024 themes of ethics, ecology, and energy.
Supported by the Victorian Government and Creative Victoria, MDW has grown significantly since its inception, with over 350 programs in 2023 attracting over 70,000 attendees, solidifying its position as Australia's premier design event.
