Das Deutsche Polen-Institut ist das Zentrum für polnische Geschichte, Politik, Kultur und Gesellschaft und die deutsch-polnischen Beziehungen. Es pflegt die Beziehungen zum Nachbarland Polen durch sein Programmangebot vorwiegend in Deutschland. Dabei verbindet es mehrere Aufgaben: Es vereint praxisbezogene Wissenschaft und Forschung, Bildungsangebote für Schulen und Hochschulen, politische Foren, editorische Projekte und öffentliche Veranstaltungen. Das Institut besitzt eine einmalige Spezialbibliothek zu Polen mit umfangreichen Beständen zu deutsch-polnischen Beziehungen, polnischer Gegenwart und Geschichte, Literatur im Original und in Übersetzung.
