John Deveau

Deveau Martial Arts offers instruction in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, commonly known as Ninjutsu, a traditional Japanese martial art shaped by historical combat techniques. Its training covers practical self-defence in a safe, friendly and supportive environment, with an emphasis on awareness, balance, evasion and responsible use of skills. Students study a broad curriculum that includes unarmed techniques, joint locks, ground fighting, close-quarter combat, defenses against multiple attackers, strikes, pressure points and movement skills such as rolling and leaping.

Weapons training includes a range of traditional tools, including the sword, staff, knife, net and naginata. Classes also incorporate fitness exercises, breathing practice and occasional meditation; students are encouraged to work at their own pace. Deveau Martial Arts lists a Cobble Hill dojo, with regular evening classes and an advanced session, and serves students from the South Cowichan area as well as Victoria and Nanaimo.

Flexible options include monthly membership, a six-class punch card and private lessons by request. The school also shares seminar and event updates and fosters a welcoming community
