Dexter Verband Deutschland

Dexter Verband Deutschland e.V. (DVD) is the official breed organization representing Dexter cattle in Germany. Established in 2002, it developed from the Dexter breeders’ interest group after being entrusted with nationwide breed representation by the Federal Association of German Beef Cattle Breeders and Keepers. The association promotes the development of the Dexter breed, sets breeding objectives and supports improvements in production characteristics, following its own breeding guidelines and working with the relevant German herd books.

The DVD offers members breeding advice, training and support with public relations, marketing breeding animals, finding suitable breeding stock and artificial insemination. It organizes shows, exhibitions, seminars, breeder gatherings and trips to expand knowledge of the breed and raise its profile. The association also provides information on Dexter cattle, including their history, husbandry, feeding, health, breed characteristics and purchasing. Its website features a cattle marketplace, breeding results, event reports, photos, resources and membership information. The DVD promotes herd health standards and works to limit the spread of genetically inherited chondrodysplasia, commonly known as the Bulldog gene, using genetic testing to identify carrier animals.
