Deystrum is a fantasy setting hosted on World Anvil, created by Brandon Hush to support and supplement his novel, The Orphan Kings. The world’s magic is limited to a fixed number of people: when a magical person dies, a child born afterward inherits that magic. People are ranked by the number of abilities they possess, with the most powerful gaining fame and responsibility while others may face exploitation. The story follows Atiniir Stormcell, an eight-year-old prince whose father, the king, is assassinated. Forced to flee with his remaining family, Atiniir must navigate a life transformed from royal privilege to poverty under the rule of his father’s killer.
