DGFHS, also known as Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society, is a volunteer-run organization that has been promoting the study of local family history in Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, and Wigtownshire since 1987. With a dedicated team of volunteers, the society offers a range of products and services to assist researchers in their genealogical pursuits. Their Research Centre in Dumfries is a well-resourced facility equipped with a library, microfilm, and microfiche of Old Parochial Registers, Census data, and newspaper indexes, among other valuable resources.
Experienced volunteers are available to provide advice and guidance to members, directing them to relevant records and helping them navigate their family history research journey. In addition, DGFHS publishes informative newsletters three times a year, offering members the opportunity to publish their interests and queries, fostering a community of collaboration and support. The society also organizes Zoom Talks, providing educational and engaging presentations on various topics related to family history.
With around 900 members worldwide, DGFHS continues to be a valuable resource for anyone interested in exploring their ancestral roots in Dumfries and Galloway
