About DGSPJ
DGSP J is the abbreviation for Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sozialpädiatrie und Jugendmedizin eV., which translates to the German Society for Social Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. It is a scientific professional association with approximately 2000 members, mainly consisting of pediatricians, but also including pediatric nurses and doctors from other fields. The organization is dedicated to promoting and preserving the health of children and adolescents, as well as preventing, treating, and rehabilitating health and developmental disorders in this demographic.
With a bio-psycho-social health understanding as its foundation, the field of social pediatrics emphasizes the collaboration of various health-related and social disciplines. It involves an interdisciplinary perspective on the health and illness within the context of children and adolescents' lives, their families, and their surroundings. The DGSPJ advocates for comprehensive healthcare and the maximum participation and equal opportunity for children and adolescents.
They support a tiered model of care tailored to individual needs, starting from outpatient pediatric care and extending to specialized centers. The organization collaborates closely with universities, scientific associations, and institutes to achieve its goals on a scientific level, as well as with professional associations, political bodies, non-governmental organizations, welfare organizations, and municipalities on a practical level. The DGSPJ is committed to advocating for the health and participation of all children and adolescents and is a member of the Bündnis Kinder- und Jugendgesundheit e.
V. The current presidency consists of Prof. Dr.
Heidrun Thaiss (Munich), President; Prof. Dr. Vollker Mall (Munich), President; and Dr.
Andreas Oberle (Stuttgart), Member of the Presidency. The organization provides an address directory of social pediatric centers and clinics, as well as children's rehabilitation centers. It also awards the Stefan-Engel-Preis every two years for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of social pediatrics and adolescent medicine.
The DGSPJ also offers various services such as a communication platform, job listings, and press releases. Established in 1966, the DGSPJ is the successor of the German Association for Children's Health Care, which was founded in 1953. It is a well-established and respected scientific society with a wide range of members from diverse professional backgrounds, all working towards the common goal of promoting the health and well-being of children and adolescents
