About Didcot Railway Centre
Didcot Railway Centre is a living museum dedicated to the heritage of the Great Western Railway. Operated by the Great Western Society, a registered charity, the Centre occupies a 21-acre site in Didcot, Oxfordshire, arranged around the original 1932 Engine Shed. Visitors can explore a distinctive collection of Great Western Railway steam locomotives, carriages, wagons, historic buildings and smaller railway artefacts, gaining an insight into around 200 years of railway history.
The Centre offers a changing programme of visits and events, including Discovery Days, steam and heritage diesel days, and Limited Run Days, when train rides operate for part of the day. Some Steam Days feature unlimited train rides, while Discovery Days allow visitors to explore the exhibits without trains running. Seasonal attractions include the Pumpkin Express and Steam into Christmas, alongside special performances and demonstrations. The Centre also provides visitor planning information, group and school bookings, venue hire, gift and experience vouchers, and opportunities to support its work through membership, volunteering and donations.
