DIEM hibiscus

DIEM Hibiscus is an Italian horticultural company based in Latina, where it produces Hibiscus rosa-sinensis plants through a production cycle carried out entirely in Italy. Now represented by its fourth generation, the family business specializes in selecting and breeding hibiscus varieties for the floriculture market. Its in-house breeding program develops plants according to specific selection criteria, then tests each variety in different cultivation formats to identify options suited to customers’ production needs.

Testing takes around five to six years before a variety is introduced to the catalogue and offered to the international market. Catalogue varieties are protected by plant breeders’ rights through the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO). DIEM’s products include rooted, unpinched cuttings and semi-finished plants in 14 cm or 17 cm pots, typically containing two or three pinched cuttings.

Its product ranges include D-Tahiti Midi, D-Tahiti and D-Magnus. The company says it uses integrated pest management and natural methods to combat major hibiscus pests from the start of cultivation, reflecting its stated commitment to the environment
