Dierenweide Vleuten

Stichting Dierenweide Vleuten is a volunteer-run animal sanctuary and community space in Vleuten, on the outskirts of Utrecht. Open to visitors of all ages during morning hours, 8:30 to 11:30, it offers a peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors and learn about animal care. Its spacious grounds are home to sheep, goats, pigs, donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, poultry, aviary birds and ornamental ducks.

The foundation follows an animal-friendly policy: residents can remain at the farm throughout their lives, including in old age, and the organisation does not breed animals. Volunteers care for the animals and maintain their enclosures, while also welcoming visitors and sharing information. The stichting also invites people to support its work by volunteering, donating, sponsoring or adopting an animal. Adopted animals continue to live at the farm, and adopters receive a certificate.

Dierenweide Vleuten relies on community support, as costs for food, care and upkeep are only partly covered by a municipal subsidy.
