Diffused Reality is a fine art series by photographer and artist Dan Marcolina, exploring the shifting boundary between photography, digitally constructed imagery, animation and augmented reality. Each work begins with Marcolina’s own camera-based photographs, which he art directs with generative AI and refines through manual digital post-production. The result is a layered visual experience that extends beyond a traditional still image, inviting viewers to see photography as fluid and open to interpretation.
The series is offered as signed, limited-edition archival pigment prints in three sizes. Large prints measure 21 × 28 inches and are limited to 12 copies; medium prints measure 14 × 18.75 inches, with an edition of 50; and small prints measure 10 × 13.3 inches, with an edition of 100. Each print includes a QR code that activates its motion component on a phone, adding movement and dimensionality to the physical artwork. Marcolina also shares demonstrations and educational work, including a session at Adobe MAX exploring AI-generated animation and augmented reality with Zappar-powered tools.
