Digital Impact Lab is a Washington, D.C.-based intelligence operation focused on Iran’s digital activities, a field it has covered since 2018. The organization produces research and analysis on the state’s cyber capabilities, influence networks, sanctions-evasion infrastructure, and the networks connecting Iranian society to the wider internet. Its work combines Persian-language expertise and proprietary technology with a dedicated focus on Iran.
Digital Impact Lab covers four areas: cyber operations, including state-aligned threat actors and their infrastructure; information operations, such as state media ecosystems, IRGC-linked networks, and coordinated online behavior; sanctions and procurement, including front companies, financial evasion, ownership structures, and procurement networks; and network infrastructure, covering internet architecture, censorship, surveillance, connectivity, and AI-driven monitoring. Its research includes the Iran Digital Pulse series, which examines changes in connectivity and internet restrictions, alongside investigations into topics such as sanctioned entities’ digital services and procurement. The lab shares its latest work through its website and Substack, and its analysis has been cited by organizations including the UK NCSC, US CISA, Mandiant, Recorded Future, and AP News.
