About Dillon Quirke Foundation
The Dillon Quirke Foundation was established in memory of Dillon Quirke, who tragically passed away at the age of 24 due to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). The foundation, founded by Dillon's family, aims to provide widespread cardiac screening for young individuals aged 12-18 involved in sports to prevent such incidents. By identifying heart conditions early on, before symptoms appear, the foundation hopes to save lives and raise awareness about SADS.
The screening program, carried out by Advanced Medical Services and funded by the foundation, aims to reduce the occurrence of SADS in sports clubs nationwide. Inspired by Italy's successful model, which led to an 89% decrease in SADS-related deaths, the foundation advocates for similar mandatory cardiac screenings in Ireland. The foundation also conducts fundraising initiatives through the sale of branded jerseys and community events to support its noble cause.
