DiMella Shaffer

DiMella Shaffer is a privately owned, Boston-based architecture, planning, and design firm serving academic, residential, senior living, science and technology, and workplace clients. Its work brings together architecture, interior design, and planning, guided by an emphasis on balancing artistic expression with practical use, tradition with innovation, and client input with creative challenge. The firm describes its process as collaborative: it works closely with clients to discover needs, explore possibilities, and develop responsive designs intended to feel both current and lasting.

Its portfolio includes academic facilities and campus housing, residential and senior living communities, life science and technology environments, workplace interiors, and administrative offices. Featured projects range from the South College academic facility and UMass undergraduate and graduate housing to the Glenmeadow expansion, Clubhouse at Edgewood Retirement Communities, The Baldwin life-care community, and a life science campus in Alewife. The firm also shares perspectives on architecture, building performance, and energy codes through its blog.
