About DIPLOMICS
DIPLOMICS (DIstributed PLatform in OMICS) is a renowned brand and one of the 13 Research Infrastructures established by the South African Research Infrastructure Roadmap (SARIR) under the Department of Science and Innovation. Located in Woodstock, Cape Town, DIPLOMICS is hosted by the Centre for Proteomic & Genomic Research. The primary objective of DIPLOMICS is to enhance and strengthen Omics capacity, thereby improving the quality of research and increasing accessibility to Omics technology and expertise.
They achieve this by providing support for research infrastructure resources, launching impactful projects, implementing human capital development programs, and creating awareness within the Omics community. DIPLOMICS offers comprehensive support to partner laboratories, deploying state-of-the-art equipment, providing maintenance and service contracts in cooperation with the industry, and implementing laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Moreover, DIPLOMICS is committed to advanced training, both for scientists and technicians, by offering access to specialized courses and workshops.
Their investment in training since 2017 amounts to R9. 1m. By serving as a central portal, DIPLOMICS plays a crucial role in providing access to information on Omics resources and opportunities.
They aim to optimize the South African Omics market, minimize any monopoly effects, and understand global trends in Omics research. At the core of DIPLOMICS, three advisory committees (ACs) consisting of esteemed scientists represent the domains of genomics, proteomics & metabolomics, and bioinformatics. These committees collaborate closely with DIPLOMICS management to identify infrastructure gaps, find solutions, and develop strategic initiatives.
DIPLOMICS is a vital part of the Department of Science and Innovation's SARIR program and is managed by the CPGR. This brand is dedicated to advancing research and innovation in the field of Omics while striving to achieve excellence in science and technology
